I am being screwed! Help!

Ok. So i finally get to let my frustration out a little. A few months ago, i was in a car accident, which was not my fault because the other driver took a red light. Anyways, the damage to my car is about $4,000 but the value of my car is only less than $2,000, sooooooooooooo....the other party's insurance only wants to pay me for the value of my car because they have declared it a "total lost". I feel like some how this accident was m fault, because i am being screwed. They want to give me $1,641 to buy off my car because that's the value of my car and because it has already been set as a "total lost". I will soon be without a car and i will have to deal with the struggle and frustration of having a car payment or just buying a car with whatever money i have. I don not understand how i was involved in a car accident that was not my fault and i have to deal with, back pain, lost of money, lose a car that was perfectly fine, deal with a car payment or just have to buy a car? Why can't i just have my car back to its original condition? That's all i ask. Any one have any feedbacks, suggestions......anything???? I am stressed out and frustrated  :/

  1. First of all, sorry for your loss because I know how it feels. When this happened to me about 14 years ago my van was worth about $5000 and it was totaled. Yeah, I got the money but then, like you say, had a car payment - but I did get a new car and the money I got from the insurance helped with the down payment. It is a difficult situation but it is the way car insurance works. They only have to pay the value of your car. The thought is you go out and buy a car that is the same value as the car you lost. I know it doesn't feel right because you get to know your own car and you know what is wrong and you live with it. If you did put any large amount into your car in the last year make sure to submit that because say, if you paid $1500 for a new engine, then your car is worth more than the Blue Book says it is. Or, even if you just bought four new tires. They do take that into consideration.

  2. think of what we say about premises. What if you changed the title of your post from "I Am Being Screwed" to "I Am Being Challenged"
The Universe has delivered you a big event to get through.

  3. Thank you Jabeaux54 and MT! I needed a little bit of positive thinking and some feedback from someone who has gone through something similar. I would now like to change the title of my post to "I Am Being Challenged". LOL. This sort of relates to my premise. I will take this challenge day by day and try to look at the bright side. Thank you
