the week in 1992

If we go the way of the "fake fur group," watching some film(s) together and gathering (anonymously) our own reactions to find patterns in our reactions, we still might choose to divide into "functions" organically.
Most would take the data and analyse in a paper - but others might volunteer for these functions:
1.  describe how we came to this assignment (maybe a 2-3 page introduction, including a shared description of the week in 1992)
2.  develop the final questionaire to be distributed to the groups - lead this process
3.  compile the data from all the questionaires - hard work, one volunteer already
4.  video brigade to supplement the anonymous questionaires - one or more volunteer already
5.  read and comment on "the best of the best" papers to summarize the project - this would be "after the fact" and you might need to take an "incomplete" to volunteer
6.  submit the final project to the on line journal, follow up, and inform us all of results. (also "after the fact.")
Let's say (in theory) you might wish to join 1-2-3-4-5-or 6 as a member.  That might excuse you from all or part of the exercise that "most" would do, which is to take the data and analyse it.
The day class and the night class may work on this together or go divergent ways.
Capiche?  Comments?
If you do not comment/post about this project ... well ...

  1. I am fine to compile the data and figure out how to report it and all of that - since I am currently in SOC 310 and learning SPSS - (and getting an A so I kinda know what I am doing) I have access to my professor to so I can ask him questions and such. Plus, I really love statistics. Also totally willing to do my part and interview people who were adults 20 years ago and remember what went down. If anyone wants to help with statistics, that would be great too. That is, if we do it this way. Whatever you all want to do. I think we will all learn a lot doing this. Gayle

  2. I took SOC 310 last quarter and remember how to use SPSS. But I'm also not sure how to get started with such a task as to getting started on the analysis of data, Gayle. I'm Emmanuel and am actually in your group haha. the "plads" I had the orange pants in class lol

  3. Okay - we can figure it out together ..... I was sitting in Stats class on Thursday taking an SPSS test and trying to figure out how we would evaluate the data we have been talking about ...... but Mohammed will help us figure that out ..... I have some definite ideas but we'll just have to figure out what data we want to collect! See ya Monday. - Gayle

  4. Y'all are lucky to have Mohammed teaching that class since he's such a good guy. Stats can be boring! but I'm sure he makes the class fun.

    1. Steve Rothman in Emotions in Theater was my very favorite and fun teacher but Mohammed truly is awesome .... he cares about us doing well and he explains it with goofy examples ........ plus it is great to have him for two quarters - we simply kept moving. Plus, no book, all notes and all tests are open notes - so if you just listen to him, write it down precisely - including examples so you don't get confused on the tests - you can't miss unless you make stupid math mistakes - which we all have done! Yes, I understand it and feel fine about going into 390 after this. (Well, Summer quarter.) - Gayle

    3. Oh, Steve Rothman is The Dude. He is a great guy and he tells you right away how to get an A. The class is part of the upper division Emotions them. It is a once a week class - mine was Wednesday 11am - 3pm and he talks and we talk during the first part - then lunch - then we watch a movie then we go home. We have to write about the movies and our emotions blah, blah, blah - different genre's for the movies of course. We had a book about how movies changed in the 60s, 70s and all of that (I didn't really like the book, but oh, well.) You should meet him. He is a nice guy. Go to my Facebook Page and he is a friend. I know he just went to Utah with some students for some theater competition. He posted about it on Facebook. You two would really get along.

  7. Hello All. I've been sick the past week and am pretty sure I missed out on quite a bit of information. Could someone please understand the purpose of this project so I could better understand this post.

  8. This is about Paper #3. BTW - Paper #2 is now due on Feb 27 - a week from this Monday. We met about paper #3 and how we would approach it and one of the suggestions is we do a group paper - which is why MT wrote out all the suggestions above - if people could volunteer to head groups to do research, etc, then not everyone would be writing an individual paper. I am sure we will continue talking about it next week - Gayle

  9. Thinking about the video might be good, i thought about it over the weekend but we have to think about locations where would we go is everyone willing to go out and spend the whole day or 2 whichever long it make take. It could be dangerous what if people that we ask the questions to might get upset or who knows. What does everyone else think?

  10. What if professor tabor would just assign the assignment and we do it on our own. For example a paper depends how long she wants the pages.lol well

  12. Honestly, I would prefer writing paper #3 on our own reactions about the LA Riots. Also what would be the purpose of compiling data and questionnaires? I think it would take up more time than these 3 weeks we have left.

  13. PB might be right. we could still watch a movie or two about it.

  14. I agree with PB. I prefer to write the 3rd paper on our reactions of the LA Riots or another topic. Gathering data is going to take us longer to collect than writing the paper. The idea is interesting, but we don't have a lot of time. We also have to keep in mind that finals are coming up and other stidents have to study for exams or finish projects

  15. I also agree with PB, it sounds fun and interesting but I do not think we have enough time to do all the surveys and analyzing the information, what are we looking for in the survey?

  16. I agree with Paddington and Blue. We should watch a movie on the LA Riots/Civil Disturbance and write our own paper on this event.

  17. AS YOU can see above, I agree, too. Hopefully we get either the movie or the title today. also, see from my post that we can easily find articles on this event.

  18. ok - I'll make a new post to start the discussion which we will finalize before the end of the week.
