Umpteenth reminder NIGHT CLASS

Tonight we meet in the Library - north side.  See you IN THE LIBRARY at 6:10.  Computer room on 1st floor, back behind the reference desk, to the RIGHT.

Please Help!!!!

...I have attended every class and I am confused about Paper #1. I guess I'm confused on how your premise, goal, "me" and "I" all have to tie into one paper. Can anyone help? I would  appreciate it!

Question for MT..

Hi, MT - I was wondering, I used a few quotes that I found in my Sociology book from last quarter, but it was a book that was published by my Professor Jon Snodgrass. I know who the author of one quote is, but how do I give him credit?
Also, I am using the quote you have on your blog by George Elliot, how do I give him credit in my reference page?  Best, Leslie

This makes me hungry.. Not!

v do you actually know what you eat when u got to fast food chains? or anywhere for that matter..
I came across this picture a few days ago and it brought a huge smile to my face. It's simple things like this that bring back memories of my childhood. Walking into the classroom and seeing this meant that it was going to be a great day. Come to think of it, no matter what the movie was about, it always ended up as a great day. Anyone with me?

Help

I didn't go to class yesterday can someone please tell me what i missed? And was the grading rubric passed out in class or do we have to print it from somewhere?
-Thanks.

Font

Hey everyone which font were we supposed to use for the paper?

Oh, Writing Class, Writing Class!

I just did the last edit for today.  I am done.  Until tomorrow when I do a quick read through and print it! Putting the premise etc. on a separate page really helped.  However, I had to revise my paper because of that.  But, that's okay.  It does sound better, I must admit.  (Make sure to read your paper out loud to yourself ..... the process helps find mistakes!!)

I was just laughing to myself about WRITING CLASS!  You start out the quarter/semester and think......... this is cool because there are no huge textbooks to read.  Oh, three papers and a few little assignments, I can do that.  Then the writing starts, right?  You write and proofread and edit and write again.  Anyone who believes writers just sit down and their fingers fly and the words come out ....... so not true.  It is a lot of work to get it even half way right.

Okay, one of three finished.  YAY!!  Happy Tuesday everyone.

Operationalization

I am checking my notes and can't find them!  I think what Operationalization means is ....... you write your Obstacles to the goal and then the Operationalization is how you measure your goal or that you are reaching your goal.  Is this correct?  Thanks.

mondays

one thing that i see or hear every monday is people always say they "hate mondays"
Today while i was on facebook i read about 10 posts from different people talking about how they hated mondays..lol...
Just thought i would share this with everyone!
does anyone else hate Mondays????

Income tax Seasonal ballers

February through April are some of the most funnest months to study different groups of people. You start to see people buying new cars, dressing better, female buying 38 inch hair, eating at high end restaurants. People on Facebook posting stacks of cash all of the place talking about how much they ballin out on control. lol Don't get me wrong I look forward to tax time, this is the time where I make up from all the shopping I did for Xmas and birthdays. But the difference is I don't pretend like I'm always big balling with several racks in my account. everybody getting tated living the life style, but come May reality kicks back in and your back broke. Do't quit that job to fast because you got back six racks.People lets get it together out here. But everyone be on the look out for the income tax seasonal ballers

FaceBook " Sunday"

I think it is so funny that ONLY on SUNDAY on FaceBook you see on people walls post about how much they love God and how they are going to church and had a wonderful day at church and how pastor spoke to them. But then on Monday its back to F the B or he " aint" S.. smh or even how on Sunday you cant dare mention anything that dont deal with church smg. what is the world coming to? Either you are with God or you not. Im not here tio judge because lord no my list goes on. I'm just here to state the fact, either you going to be a Christian all day evey day or only on Sundays. I think im going to start posting carzy thought only on Sunday to make the Facebook Sunday people mad lol.

Oh how ii hate being...Stuck!

STUCK, that word is funny because in the middle it says U C K- like yuck i hate being STUCK.

Somedays... i wish i could tuck myself away from stuck and push L right in front of yuck to make  yLUCK.  stuckparalyzes you to remain in conditions that contain adversities in LIFE and  in L <3 VE , when you stuck, U can run into a muck. OH yuck!

O. M. G... >>> how ii hate being stuck.  So run if you will far away from that sticky word s s s STUCK!
& please don't get stuck sitting like a duck in a muck only carrying a buck!

P.S. anyone is welcome to continue this poem of stuck... ha ha ha GOOD LUCK.

Is it just me or...

Does anyone else dislike writing about themselves? Don't get me wrong this assignment seems great in theory, but digging deep down inside to write a paper in which you open yourself to someone who after 10 weeks you'll probably never see again, that somehow is so unappealing to me. Maybe this is why i'm having a bad case of writer's block :(    READ COMMENT READ COMMENT READ COMMENT

Paper due date

Hey everyone quick question the paper is due Wednesday right?

Outline/Format

What exactly is the outline/format of paper #1? Is it on the the webpage before you click the link to enter the blog?

??????

What does it mean when Professor Tabor said to be operationalization on the paper. On the first page of her website it says operationalization???

Paper

Am I the only one or is someone else having a hard time starting on this paper? I have no idea where to start or what to say. AHHHHHHHH!!!! I'm so frustrated. There is so much going on in my head. I know what I'm going to talk about I'm just not sure how to put it all together.

Culture Shock

Hi everyone! So, I'm in Riverton Wyoming visiting my brother and his family. It's about 15 to 20 degrees here! I have never felt this cold! But it's pretty nice to visit another state and see how completely different it is from California. I miss SoCal already! I'm not not going to lie though, it's really peaceful here. Since i am flying home tomorrow i'm not going to be able to go to class, so if you guys can inform me on mondays class that would be awesome!! thanks.

- have a nice day everyone!

Nagging

I was nice to all procrastinators and moved the posts on the paper up to the top.  Meantime, here's something interesting on nagging.

Sick at home... thought I'd share this song.

Currently my jam. I love this cover. The lyrics are goofy, but endearing.

1950's Beauty Guide-Haircare

I saw this clip and I thought it was interesting. How many days do you leave your hair without washing it? According to this clip, women in the 50's were recommended to wash their hair every two weeks. Yikes!! I, at least, leave my hair without washing for about three days.

Good Morning

Good morning! I'm having a really good weekend so far. My mothers birthday celebration was yesterday and I threw her a surprise party. She was so happy and we had so much fun. I'm making her breakfast in bed, start my morning pages in a really good mood, finish off my essay, and head for the gym.

It feels so good going into the weekend knowing that your paper is done. Have a nice weekend everyone!!

On Campus Job for a good writer

We are recruiting tutors to work in the University Writing Center. To work as tutors, students must be at least juniors and have a 3.0 GPA. While prospective tutors should be fairly strong writers, they need not have any particular expertise in grammar or linguistics. We provide training during their first quarter and ongoing training and observation throughout their time in the Writing Center. Interested students can drop by the Writing Center in the South Wing of the Library to pick up an application.

Since I do not yet know your writing skills, U cannot say that I personally recommended U. ~ Tabor

Class

Class had alot of information that was necessary. Im glad Professor Tabor took the time out of class and had us attend this workshop :)

NIce dAy!

Today is a really nice day outside it is nice and sunny!
A day like this i would love to enjoy it at the park eating a mango :) hehe!
how would you like to enjoy this beautiful day? ( not in bed)

BTW here are the lyrics to "Somebody That I Use To Know"

"Now and then I think of when we were togetherLike when you said you felt so happy you could dieTold myself that you were right for meBut felt so lonely in your companyBut that was love and it's an ache I still remember

You can get addicted to a certain kind of sadnessLike resignation to the end, always the endSo when we found that we could not make senseWell you said that we would still be friendsBut I'll admit that I was glad that it was over

But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothingAnd I don't even need your loveBut you treat me like a stranger and that feels so roughNo you didn't have to stoop so lowHave your friends collect your records and then change your numberI guess that I don't need that thoughNow you're just somebody that I used to know

Now you're just somebody that I used to know Now you're just somebody that I used to know

Now and then I think of all the times you screwed me overBut had me believing it was always something that I'd doneAnd I don't wanna live that wayReading into every word you sayYou said that you could let it goAnd I wouldn't catch you hung up on somebody that you used to know

But you didn't have to cut me off Make out like it never happened and that we were nothingAnd I don't even need your loveBut you treat me like a stranger and that feels so roughAnd you didn't have to stoop so lowHave your friends collect your records and then change your numberI guess that I don't need that thoughNow you're just somebody that I used to know

Self-defense or police brutality?

My friends and I were discussing whether this was police brutality or self-defense. It is a video of a man getting shot outside of Carl's Jr near East Los Angeles College yesterday. What do you guys think?

Bronson

If you haven't seen it, you should. The film Bronson will knock your socks off! For those that don't have Netflix, go here: http://www.1channel.ch/

Jane Fonda

Just a thought here.. doesn't Professor Tabor look like Jane Fonda? In a good way though :) What does everyone else think, what about you Dr. Tabor?

Assignment

Can i still turn in the assignment with the 3 rules? I missed class this past monday the 23rd due to the rain as i explained in my earlier blog about hating the rain.

LA Riots

To be quite frank I vaguely remember the LA riots. I was only 4 or 5 years old. What I can remember I'm not sure if it's from what I learned in school or if in the back of my mind I somewhat remember. I googled LA riots and read the overall summary of what happened that day in 1992. Although, I feel the way he was treated was not justified I feel that police officers sometimes do not get a fair trial either. Every day they deal with the city's "dark" side, they do not know what can happen. They have a family to go to as well. Yesterday I was sent a video that showed a man getting killed by a police officer. The suspect had a sledge hammer and was presumably on some type of drug breaking into peoples cars and threatening he who stepped his way. The officer shot him 11 times and killed him when the suspect raised the sledge hammer at another officer. Coming from the victims family I can see how unjust that would look but from an outside perspective it was either the police officer or the suspect.

paper #1 Due Day Wed Feb 1 Night Tu Feb 7

  1. remember the "I" and the "me" of George Herbert Mead.  Your "goal" might be to become more balanced or more "me" if you are I-I-I or more I if you are ok-me-me-what-do-you-want-of-me-me-me.
  2. maybe you are a certain "type" in the quads and you see you could augment the opposite tendencies in yourself.  or maybe you see that your significant other is better understood and related to once you study that persons type.
  3. It will be good to attach to your 2.5 page paper a one-sheet that states Goal, Obstacles, Actions, Operationalization, steps taken.  This will FORCE you to attend to each of those and then you can more easily and naturally fold them into your paper.
  4. FINALLY, if you wish to keep private and not do this paper on yourself, you can take a well-known character, e.g., Forrest Gump or Maggie in "Million Dollar Baby" and use that character (rather than your own character) as your node of sociological analysis.
Comment.  Make sense?  Other questions?

Academy Award Nominations

Since I am always up by 5:30 am I have decided to treat myself, turn on the TV, and watch the Academy Award nominations live!  (Do you like that sentence with well placed commas? LOL) One thing that always cracks me up, on this one day of the year, is how the newspeople will talk to the nominees throughout the day.  Especially the actors on the west coast (after all it IS early) who will not admit they were up and glued to the TV.  It goes like this - "So how did you find out your were nominated?" And the actor replies, "Oh, my agent called me," or, "My Mom called to let me know."  Really?  You really were not glued to the TV with the phone right by your bed?  You really had no idea you were even in contention?  They want to come across as so casual and so shocked.  Seriously, keep this in mind this week if you hear any of these conversations. Okay, here we go ........

HATE THE RAIN!!!

Did not want to miss class but i had to.... got to school in the morning didn't even attend my first class had to go home due to the rain. I had fallen into a puddle of water at school shoes and socks were completely wet. My car was totally fogged up, the defrost did not work could not see the roads very well . It was like driving blindfolded. It was terrible. Missing classes throws you off a bit.  I kept thinking what else could go wrong. Just 2 weeks ago on friday the 13th someone broke into my car and stole the car computer from it. Without it the car won't start. I was bummed out. I thought it was going to cost me an arm and a leg but found it cheap on craigslist. Much less than i expected. Well enough about me lol. CAN ANYONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT HAPPENED IN CLASS TODAY? WAS THEIR A REVIEW OF WHAT TO DO FOR THE PAPER? THANKS.

Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus...Spoken Words

Different everyday...

I liked how MT proposed the question " Are you the same person everyday? I don't think so" :)
I believe this is true! I have to admit that I am not the same person everyday. Things I come accross, and experiences I go through, influence me everyday. My mood is different every morning, therefore, I am a different person everyday, and there is nothing wrong with that! I think it will be a bit bizzare if we were the same exact person everyday. Do you agree?

Best, Leslie :)

morning writings

So I missed class last week and I thought the blog was going to keep me updated. I guess it really does make an incredible difference when you are not there.  I have been doing the morning writings and I have to say it is actually pretty wonderful.  I can't say I wake up looking forward to doing it but it has been a process that has been enjoyable.  It is amazing though how much your mind can just flow.  I find myself writing and wring and I do not even notice how much I have written.

Some mornings are easier than others.  Some mornings I write 3 pages before I know it and some mornings I cannot even manage to get a paragraph on paper.  I assume this is normal because I cannot be the only person with writers block at 9 in the morning.  It is difficult to know what I have written also as you are not supposed to reread what you have written. I have to admit though I do feel better once it has been completed so I guess for that it is good and useful.

Hello

Hi everyone I was finally able to become part of the blogger!
Hope everyone is having a good day! Although its raining and its cold  >.<

I forgot my wallet!

Don't you hate it when you forget your wallet or money?
I forgot my wallet today and didn't notice up until I arrived at school. It didn't bothermemuch since I had brought a snack but then I saw this guy eating a Cesar Salad from Dolcini right next to me! Anyone that has ever tried that salad knows how addicting it is ;) I was eating my bagel that I brought from home, but it didn't taste too good because I was craving his salad lol! :(

Today Reminds me of home =)

I have been waiting for rain for a few months now. My winters usually consist of rain, wind, a fire place, and lots of coffee. I am originally from Stockton, a city up north, where the winter season is prevalent. Rain coats, boots, peacoats, scarfs, and sweaters are always used during this season. I was so excited to put my winter clothing on this morning. I can't really say I love the rain but it does remind me of home.

Question

Just to be sure can anyone reassure me what was due today?

Thank

Its a beautiful morning!

Top of the Day peps! It will be a positive morning because it is raining! Yes, I said it...RAIN!  I enjoy listening to the sound of rain, beating against the earth hard like drums in an New Orleans parade. Yes, rain can be invigorating and rejuvenating to the soul. So get out and soak it up. Smell the richness of the earth and fell the sparkle of the planet... =)

any society has the potential to be self sustaining, however people must escape  ideologies that make us dependent on resources that exploit others.

Forgive and set the prisoner free, but realie the prisoner was you!!!

Forgive and set the prisoner free, but realie the prisoner was you!!!

Sometimes we can hold past pain and hurts that people did to us and it drive us insane, but when we forgive people we dont do it for them but for ourselfs, they dont even have to be involved in this, we forgive to lear our hearts so the maker will forgive us. I took this class called grief recovery and it deals with past hurts and pain that other people did to us, and how we never see how much of a impacted they had on us till we sit back and look and see that we are still hurt and carrying all this anger and bitterness inside and we are kiling ourselves inside

Tonight! Tonight! Tonight!

I am going to the show of one of my favorite band tonight, Dashboard Confessional. I seriously could not be more exited and happy. With that said, I would like to mention that life should be spent by doing things that one loves. I know that is not always easy, but life is just so much easier that way.
YES, going to one of my favorite band's show makes me feel this way.

- Have a nice night everyone!

Question About EOS Sentences

Hi everyone, I'm doing the sentences for EOS and for rule 3 it talks about different things. For example, how to punctuate for dates and abbreviations. Can we pick any of those to write on or it has to be the first one mentioned?

YOUR and YOU'RE

Premise

A favorite author of mine is Jack Kerouac. Here's a quote that more or less ties in with my premise; I hope so:
“My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them.”

My premise:   "Let it be for I will succeed (achieve)" Achieve and succeed can be used interchangeably.

Ernest Hemingway quotes

Here is something by Ernest Hemingway...... " I didn't want to kiss you goodbye--that was the trouble--I wanted to kiss you good night--and there's a lot of difference."
Here is another..." You can make me jealous--'cause my loving you is a chink in the armour of telling the world to go to hell."

Confused

For the assignment due next week using the EOS book, did Dr. Tabor say she wanted the right and the wrong just like we did for the previous assignment? I also heard she wanted 2, not sure if 2 for each rule? Anyone know???

Los Angeles Riots

I remember Tabor saying to do a blog, but I guess I will be the first. I was in the third grade when the riots happened. I remember watching one of the downtown federal buildings on fire on TV. I knew what was going on, but could not understand why. All I remember is that the next day, my teacher made my class write letters to Rodney King and asking him why he did the "bad thing" against the police department. About three days later, I was on my way to my dad's home in Norco with my grandmother and saw the same building I saw on television while driving through Downtown Los Angeles. That image stayed with me, along with the letters to Rodney King. Only as I grew up I learned the reason why the riots occured, and that there was another man who was severely beaten: Reginald Denny. As of today, I still drive by that federal building, but the smoke-lined windows are no longer there.

Premise

Mine was a tie between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Emiliano Zapata. But in the end, I felt more inspired by Martin Luther King, Jr.:
"Faith is taking the first step without seeing the entire staircase". This would sum up my going back to college after taking five years off to support my family. I took the first step, not knowing if I would be the same student I was five years earlier. It turns out that, not only was I the same student, working in the legal field improved reading and researching skills.

Premise on Life

The one that came to me in class today is, "In spite of everything, life is good."  I thought these were the final words from The Diary of Anne Frank but I can't confirm that. Maybe I will go to a bookstore this weekend and look it up.  Doesn't matter anyway.  That saying has been one of my favorites for a long, long time.

Another one I like is about living a minimalist life:  "After all, everything is only borrowed."  Meaning just that. Every thing we own, every relationship we are in now or have experienced, every day we live or adventure we have (negative or positive) is only borrowed.  The more we try to hang on, the more frustrated and emotionally unstable we may become.  Running after stuff, trying too hard ....... such a drain.  Balance is key.

My premise :)

Hello, Everyone <3    This is my premise, its a bit long, but I love it! It motivates me :))

You determine how you feel, based on the interpretation you give to the words and actions of others :)

missing class

When you miss a class it really throws you off UGH!!! Im in that situation.

Severed Head Found On Hiking Trail

No more than 24 hours ago two hikers found a bag which contained a severed male head near the Hollywood sign hiking trail. The shocking part, in my opinion, was my reaction to this news. Initially I was fearful because I have hiked that trail before, but in a split second my fear turned to intrigue and interest. I have heard experts say that the media now a days tend to introduce us to gruesome things at a young age and that we have slowly become desensitized to horrific acts. Being the avid video gamer that I am maybe I have succumbed to this desensitizing epidemic.

My question: Do you think desensitizing is a problem?

Also, If you would like to read more about the severed head I have provided the link to the CNN article here.

A little piece of mind :)

"A man never discloses his own character so clearly as when he describes's another's"   - Jean P. Richter

You all agree?

Dont you hate it when.

you pay bills and find out you have "extra" money? You break your head trying to make sense of this because there's no way you can have an extra 200 dollars! You wait a whole week before you spend it. You spend it. and then BOOM.  You remember what that money was for. New tires on a new credit card. These new pair of heels aren't that hot to me anymore. Thanks for the $25 late fee citibank :) check out my new shoes tho!

Helpless Chinese boy Attacked and Jumped by 7 Others

It's sad to see how sick this world is.

Effects of Class

To be honest, writing scares me. Even though my mind is always active and I find it easy to form different stories and such. After seeing the structure of this class, I feel like my fear of writing will go away. I love how this class focuses more on discussions about writing rather than just doing serious work. Nonetheless, I am excited to see how this class will change my writing.

A Shitty Day

God, it was a shitty day. I went out to my car this morning-- only to discover that I  had acquired (over night) a $68 parking ticket and a dead battery. That set the mood for the rest of the day, and it only got worse. After charging the battery--thanks to an obliging neighbor-- I set out for Griffith Park for my morning hike. Though I was VERY low on gas, I didn't want to stop for fear that the battery was not yet fully charged. And, so...I decided to chance it. Yeah, I made it, but my victory was short-lived. As soon as I walked down the mountain (towards the parking lot), something told me that I'd pushed my luck, and boy was I right! The battery was STILL dead! The only word that I could possibly utter was, "fuck." My  car  was parked on a slope--thank Christ-- so I was  able to pop the clutch. Since my boyfriend lives down the road, I thought it would be a good idea for him to check out the car. Though he knows nothing--and I do mean nothing-- about automobiles , I assured myself that he would be able to help. Well, for some odd reason, he didn't have a clue how to fix it. Shocker, huh. He suggested I check the oil! Umm...yeah,  you're a big help there, big guy. Naturally, at this point, I have NO gas in my car; it's beyond empty, and of course, my battery won't charge. My boyfriend had to push my car down his flat/leveled street so that (once again) I could pop the freaking clutch. As the car shot forward--as it often does when you trick it into starting-- I realized that there was no way in hell I would ever make it home on a dry gas tank, so I headed for the first gas station.  It just so happens that the closest location is one that I know well. In fact, my car has broken down there so many times, they half expect it from me. They weren't surprised when I explained to them that not only did I need a pack of cigarettes before I killed someone, bit I also needed to pump my gas with the motor running! They were so nice; their only request was that I move my car to the far pump, so if my car exploded, others wouldn't be harmed! I swear, I couldn't make this shit up if I spent all day trying. I finally made it home. I pulled my car into the driveway, and let it run for an hour. The battery seems to be doing alright at the moment, but I guess the moment of truth will come tomorrow morning when I'm runnung late for class. Now, however, I can't figure out how to reply to MT's blog about our first-day-writing experience. If anyone reads this long blog and feels so inclined to help me out (or possibly giving me a ride to school in the morning), please feel free to contact me here.

hey i am having trouble trying to open the blogs, it opens up but then it satys blank for 30 mins and i dont c anything popin up on the screen... :0
So this is a bit different for me.  I have always been one to have an opinion but I never thought I would be blogging.  I guess this proves that you never know the path you will take.  The morning pages so far have been...a unique experience.  During class I was so excited, my life has changed so much in the past few weeks and the morning pages (I thought) would really be a great help to center my thoughts.  In actuality I have 2 dogs (2yo tabetha  and 8weeks old big boi).  They have quite literally rearranged every morning plan I have had as well as  been apart of every morning page I have tried to write.  Thus meaning the more you plan the more you realize you have no idea what may happen.

The class seems to be pretty exciting as the structure is so laid back yet informative.  I enjoy the fact that it is not all lecture but more interaction amongst peers.  The stories that have been shared add depth to the group as we will share and grow over the next 10 weeks.  I also think the class is exactly what I need to get my writing in order. being concise is so very difficult. I will have plenty of weeks to get the hang of it but like anything new it will only take time to master.  And if there is one thing in life we all know for sure, we have time to learn and grow.

Ramblings on the Effects of the Class

I started the journal.  I had done this before - learned about it in homeopathy school from one of my teachers who also came from a drama background.  My son graduated from Muhlenberg College (PA) with his B.A. in Theater Arts and, when I run across wonderful people who come from a drama background,  I always point out to him what a great start it is for so many careers.  He is a dog trainer at an upscale dog hotel in Boston (act your way through the shit you don't know!!) and involved in a theater company in Boston. He is married with a new baby (my first granddaughter Sage Mary), and getting his teaching credential so he can teach History to Middle School students.  Another great use for a Theater Arts degree!!! Anyway, I digress which is typical.

As far as my journal writing, now I have to get 21 days IN A ROW.  It is by my bed but sometimes I forget.  The nice thing about doing morning pages is that it helps me remember my dreams.  That is the first thing I write about.  Thank goodness we aren't supposed to go back and re-read these.  I can barely read my own handwriting.  But, getting it on paper is a great practice and expands my mind.

Also, I had to write a short paper for SOC 412. (So stupid - it isn't even a part of our grade - she just wants to see our writing!!)  I wrote it and then used my editing skills to create concise sentences.  Something I am, obviously, not doing here.

This class has been most helpful and entertaining and it has only been a week.  I am expecting miracles.  Have a nice day.

Tuesday Office Hours

Due to the arrival of the new puppy, office hours will be shorter on this Tuesday afternoon.  Rather than starting at 4:30, they will start at 5:15.

Your assignments for this week

1.  bring in a journal to "show" it - maybe you have started MPages, and maybe not
2.  "do" Rule #1 of EOS, following the format given in class
3.  Day:  bring in your personal premise (night will go over this in night class)
4.  Post or comment somewhere on this blog - and if you are unsuccessful, you email me
5.  Read Rule #17 in the book
AT END OF EACH CLASS, let's go over what is assigned.

Guess what the expectations were

each one of you was to comment on this post http://writingsoc.blogspot.com/2012/01/effect-of-class.html or to make a post yourself about "the effects of this class".
so far, 11 commented.  the fun posts are fun - and that's fine - but most of them are not about "the effects of this class."  Let's have fun AND be disciplined.
