Proposal for Paper #3 -

Each writes an independent paper
We watch one film together - on the civil disturbance of 1992
We each have 3 citations (in addition to the film)
There are many (but not too many) interesting articles on LA Riots if you put the following words in the search engine.

We could figure out how these articles could be read by each other and shared - about 25 articles, 25 students - each read one and report.  then each of you have easy access to 3 citations that work for you.

You use, at least briefly, two of the four thinkers in your analysis
  1. Max  Weber:  "ideal type"
  2. Karl Marx:  social class and alienation -
  3. Durkheim:  solidarity or anomie -
  4. Simmel:  size of groups or other sociations
You avoid the pitfall of
  1. the obvious
  2. the political, the evaluative
  3. the over-general
decide together on maximum length
decide together on hard copy due final day March 13 or 14
or electronic copy due Saturday morning 3/17

  1. I missed class today but it sounds great! What does everyone else think?

  2. This is a very clear and concise breakdown on paper #3. Now would the article be a part of the 3 citations or added to the 3 making it a 4th one? I think the maximum length should be 5 pages, a separate page for the works cited, maybe an abstract page and our cover sheet. It should be due March 17th, electronically.

  3. The three citations could be from the articles you read or the articles fellow students read and summarize for you. I.e., the fellow students would direct you (along with the abstracts) to the articles that would serve you.
