Osama Bin Laden Dead... Empty Symbolism!

An obviously symbolic act, that is sure to perpetuate more violence. The cycle will never end. Don't we all know that there are millions of other "Bin Ladens" ready, willing and waiting to take his place. It won't be long before there is another devastating retaliation killing more innocent people. How many innocent people have died in our country and the middle east. The world is a mess. Deflection and distraction, this will be a defining moment for President Obama...Oh right, the elections are next year. The world is F***ed up!!! and it is politics as usual. Some one in class mentioned something Ghandi said, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." Have we all bought in to the madness? Are we all BLIND! Oscar Wilde said, "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." From now on, I just look at the stars.

  2. I hear what you are saying, and I agree the world is messed up, but only looking at the stars doesn't change the fact that you are still in the gutter. Diverting your attention from the problem is not a solution. If you choose not to look, isn't it the same as being blind? What is the solution?

  3. Maybe looking at the stars is the only solution. Everyone contributes to the creation of this world; through our perceptions and beliefs we create it. I just don’t think this is a time to be celebrating. Killing bin laden is merely a symbolic gesture, that reinforces blind patriotism. There may be evil in the world, but all sides perpetrate it. American policies are partly responsible for what happened on 9/11. This is a display of an “us and them” mentality, when there is no “us and them.” Retaliation is the distraction. Gandhi also said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Our minds and ideology have being manipulated by war and fear mongers. We have all been convinced that it is impractical, impossible, immature or unrealistic to believe that through envisioning the world in a different way, we can change it. You cannot make a move without thinking it first. Our beliefs and thoughts are powerful. Humans have the choice and the ability to create horror or beauty in this world. If collectively we “we looked at the stars,” everything could change in an instant. In other words, if we were all looking at the stars, we wouldn’t be living in a gutter.

  4. You took the words directly from my thoughts... as President Obama announced the US victory on the capture of Bin Laden... I laughed... MY QUESTION TO THE CONSCIOUS MINDS OF AMERICAN? Bin Laden was found in an up-scale community, its' equivalence to Palos Verdes pennisular neighbourhood...and THE PAKISTANEES GOVERNMENT HAD NO IDEA OF THE US INTENTIONS...AS WELL AS, BIN LADEN'S HOME IS LOCATED IN THE SAME AREA OF TRAINING COMPOUNDS FOR PAKISTAN'S TOP MILTARY GENERAL TRAINEES... LOL... HOW DISRESPECTFUL ...PRESIDENT OBAMA, TO INSULT YOUR COUNTRY MEN....

  5. I completely agree. I feel as if the government does nothing more than try to manipulate the public by using something microscopic and turning it into the equivalent of the universe. Sure, bin Laden is dead and could have been considered a threat, however, this does not mean that the United States has won anything. The public would be considered a group of fools to believe that there will not be a retaliation launched against the United States. Personally, I do not believe in celebrating the death of another no matter who evil he may have been. And the truth of the matter is, bin Laden was taught everything he knew by the UNITED STATES. So, at the end of the day him being dead is just America killing one of their own. They created that monster...

  6. Who precisely created that monster, and what was he taught by the US? Please elaborate Happy...

  7. Bhava: Well stated reply. I really wish everyone would/could collectively look at the stars. Unfortunately, since our perceptions and beliefs differ so much, I don't ever see all people coming together to try and find a positive result. As quoted in The American President, "Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours." What you may see as blind patriotism - others may see as an absolute truth.
