On the video on "Civilization" . . .

. . . some may have been disturbed by the words "civilization" and "dominance".  Is "dominance" a 'good' thing?  Would anyone deny the West has 'dominated' the past 500 years?   Did he say it was a good thing - or did he mean it was a pattern from which we could learn?    When we contrast any two things, we use language.  The very words we use contain nuance - nuance cannot be avoided with language.  Like Weber, we try to avoid value judgments even as we recognize they are in words themselves.

  1. Sometimes, taking a word, body language, or expressions as a grain of salt helps to see things objectively. The video enlightened me as I his words were very proactive in describing the events as they unfolded, even if it was in his own version or theory.
