To Drink Or Not To Drink??

Before I begin let me just say, I am not passing judgment, I am just making an observation:

I have noticed that a lot of my friends like to brag on Facebook and other social networking sites about "getting wasted" and how much fun they had BECAUSE they were "wasted." I have never been one to indulge in alcohol because I don't like anything being in control of me, I like to be in control of my own actions.  When I see things like this, it really makes me worried about the way people are treating their bodies and the positions they are putting themselves in by constantly drinking. I bothers me when I see a status that says "I need a drink."  My peers range from 21-26 and it makes no sense to me why anyone in that age range would feel as if they "need" a drink of anything other than water.  There is so much damage being done by these weekend binges people go on and I'm not sure if they realize it or if they simply don't care.  Alcohol can have so many harmful effects to a person's body as well as emotional effects.  I have a hard time comprehending what people mean when they say to me about a club or party "You wouldn't have enjoyed it because you don't drink." That makes no sense to me because I have a good time everywhere I go without a drop of alcohol in my system.  And I don't get how they would know if they had a good time or not if they can't even recall the night's events.

Is this a new trend among American youth, getting drunk just to "have a good time"?

  2. I hear what you're saying Happy! I'm pretty sure young college folk have been pulling weekend benders for decades. In my younger days, I partied in much the same way--only there weren't any social networks for me to voluntarily humiliate myself with. I just wonder what it's going to be like for these people when they apply for jobs. If I were an employer I would definately be surfing facebook to see what kind of person I may be hiring and the company they keep.

  5. No doubt there is reason to worry. Not much good, if any, comes from overindulging with alcohol. A lot of binge drinking is reinforced as acceptable behavior within peer groups. And, no, this is nothing new. There was prohibition almost 100 years ago in an attempt to reduce social problems associated with drinking. It is a good thing you are in control of your actions because you do not drink. It is not likely you will change many people by suggesting they should not drink, but I encourage you to assist others when possible - perhaps by being a designated driver.

  6. Yes they def need AA. They do not even realize it. Who knows when they ever will. Until then, there's a huge community of drinkers to welcome them. Sad. Everyone realizes on their time.

  7. Alcohol helps to loosen people up. So yes, it can turn a boring event into a more eventful one. Nothing wrong with a little alcohol, just don't get slopppyy.

    i agree with Winning. CHEERS!

  9. I agree with braveGSR . . alcohol is just like anything else in life too much of it can become a problem. I must ask, have you ever considered joining the drinking club to see what the big deal is all about? . . I also believe there are many other harmful products out in the world that everyone is consuming daily.

  10. I have actually thought about seeing what the hype is all about. However, along with personal issues, I don't like the taste of alcohol. No matter what it is mixed with, I can taste it and it tastes AWFUL to me. And as I stated in the post, I like to be in control of my own body and not allow a substance to control my actions. Also, I have no problem having fun without the influence of alcohol or anything else :)

  11. talk to your friends and explain to them that getting wasted is not always fun. Try talking them about going out to eat to a new place or out for hookah
