Help!

Hopefully, I will have completed all of the courses I need for graduation after Winter 2012. I was luckily able to get enough financial aid for summer school and got the classes that I needed as well. I am in a very difficult financial situation and I have not worked for about TWO YEARS. I'm living at home with my mom which is not working out for me and I really need to get out of here ASAP. Since I would like to attend law school once I have completed my undergrad, I need to get involved on campus and secure a relevant internship. I am getting extremely anxious about whether or not I will be able to get accepted into law school because of my lack of extracurricular activities and work experience RELEVANT to the legal field. I am in a serious bind because it is not easy to obtain a job in the legal field without either a degree or work experience. What I can do is intern, HOWEVER, that means I will be working for free when I have a child to take care of. I also need two references when I don't have ANY connections whatsoever. I really don't know many people and those I do know are not professional references or even college educated. I want to get more involved on campus, but again, I have a child who I really don't have much help with (I'm still with his father but he works and goes to school as well). I really don't have much time to get all of this together and I have no idea what to do. My future lies in the balance and I haven't the slightest idea which way to go...

...Any suggestions?? I really need some guidance...

  1. You need to network, as scary as that might sound trust me it will pay off. Talk to professors and classmates and try to get involve. Look into non-profits since they offer more flexibility with volunteers. Write down the hours that you are available and am sure you can find somewhere to get experience. as for living with your mom stick around and be like butter . . let things slide and stay focus your goal is law school =)

  2. Honestly, networking has never been one of my strong points. I know I need to get it together because it's for my future but as you said, it's scary.

    Thank you :)
