Is it just me or...

Does anyone else dislike writing about themselves? Don't get me wrong this assignment seems great in theory, but digging deep down inside to write a paper in which you open yourself to someone who after 10 weeks you'll probably never see again, that somehow is so unappealing to me. Maybe this is why i'm having a bad case of writer's block :(    READ COMMENT READ COMMENT READ COMMENT

  1. I feel the same way but only about the part where I have to write about myself. I don't mind that it's going to be read I just don't know where to start. I can write about random topics, but when it comes to me I just get stuck. And the thing is this is a very easy assiagnment, I just hope my brain starts to function soon...good luck to you as well.

  2. remember remember: I said you could substitute a character from a movie! I just said make it a movie I know. I suggested Forrest Gump or Maggie from Million Dollar Baby.

  3. I feel that writing about ourselves is a brilliant idea. Most professors have their students write about the theories of great classical and contemporary sociologists or maybe a review on a random article in which we care not one bit about its contents. Our assignment is to write about the person we know best, ourselves. So I can't quite understand how writer's block could be an issue. You know you. Allow yourself to state what you already know. Speak on your greatest characteristics as well as aspects about yourself that need growth. Maybe writing it down and seeing it concretely will help in propelling the manifestation of the growth. Also, I feel that spilling out your innermost thoughts to someone who " after 10 weeks you probably will never see again" might be MORE appealing than to speak on this topic that sayyyy your best friend. The person that will be most likely be out of your life after 10 weeks won't be able to form conclusions about your potentially outlandish ideologies and manifest her judgements through actions towards you, whereas, your best friend can.

  4. TheyCallMeFunmi - excellent post. Later we'll read "The Stranger" from Georg Simmel - it's free on line. He has the same theory: that strangers play a particular function in our lives which intimates (those in our networks) cannot play.
