Self-defense or police brutality?

My friends and I were discussing whether this was police brutality or self-defense. It is a video of a man getting shot outside of Carl's Jr near East Los Angeles College yesterday. What do you guys think?

  1. Self-defense. He had a crowbar. He held people hostage. I'm not saying he deserved it, but he had 'something' coming.

  2. Wow. This is very tough. I would say it is self-defense since the guy picked up his crowbar, but after seeing how many times the cop shot i would say its police brutality. The cop did not have to shoot so many times. I am not justifying any ones actions, but i think it could have been handled differently. i also think police officers should have more trainings so that situations like this can be handled better, because i also believe the police officer reacted in fear.

  3. Self defense the entire way.

When people act irrational then odds are you don't know what will happen. It is like that situation when two women assaulted a man at McDonalds. Another act of "going far" in self defense? Possibly. Problem is that it was still self defense.

The man shouldn't have just listened to the police. Plain an dsimple.

  4. I actually went to jr high school with this guy so it caught me by surprise when I saw this.
Anyways, I agree with butterfly33's comment. I think the police had every right to shoot him. They asked him numerous of times to drop down the weapon and he refused to. When he decided to charge at one of the police officer, it was other police officer’s duty to protect his partner. However, I don’t think it was necessary to shoot him 10 times and I think they could of handle the situation differently. In addition, before the criminal walked out of the Carl’s Jr, the police officers appear to be unorganized.

  5. the guy did not hold anyone hostage. He simply broke some windows and then pretended to swing at the cops AFTER they tased him. I don't blame him for showing no respect to the police because if you live in the "hood", you know the police don't really work for you.

  7. yeah i agree it is self defense, but i do believe the cops took it a bit far by shooting 5 times instead of one shoot to the guys shoulder.. mmm mmm mmm!
