1950's Beauty Guide-Haircare

I saw this clip and I thought it was interesting. How many days do you leave your hair without washing it? According to this clip, women in the 50's were recommended to wash their hair every two weeks. Yikes!! I, at least, leave my hair without washing for about three days.

  1. This is really neat! but man, 2 weeks without washing your hair, that's crazy. I usually wait about 3 days too.

  2. I am in my 50s and I remember my mom and her friends going once a week to get their hair "done" which meant washing, setting, blowing it out ...... whatever, this was the 60s. But, my hairdresser told me to stop washing my hair so often and that 2x per week should be the max. My hair is so much healthier now .... that every day hair washing is SO bad for your hair! But, twice a week or every 3 days seems okay. I just washed my hair after 6 days and it was getting very stale. But, I just hung out today so it didn't really matter. But 2 weeks? Oh, I don't think so!

  3. OMG I just watched it. Can you imagine washing your hair leaning over the bathroom sink unless absolutely necessary? However, he did say AT LEAST every two weeks or less if needed. Plus, you have to remember, this was the 50s when women listened to men as experts telling them about their hair. Yeah, right. Glad those days are over.

we have to remember our "standard of living" when we analyze poverty, too. You know China's minimum wage is less than 15 percent of the world's average? http://www.theepochtimes.com/n2/china-news/china-minimum-wage-30453.html

  5. The video was really inspiring to watch; I can always appreciate a little history lesson. Even with the complicated and fun hairstyles of my race/culture I can't imagine going for a long period of time not washing my hair.
