SlutWalk LA

Today was "SlutWalk" in LA where hundreds of people marched in skimpy little outfits. The march is a response to a seminar given by a Toranto police officer telling college students that the best way to avoid getting raped is to not dress like a "Slut."

In my opinion... (and yes I am a guy)
This is just another reason for women to dress and prance around in sexy little outfits because Halloween isn't enough. If they want to get taken seriously they should have left the g-strings and fishnets at home.

what do you guys think?

  1. Ah~ Halloween. You should see UCLA or USC's sorority row when it's Halloween. It's a... sight.

Casivac, I wish you posted more stuff like this earlier. It would've made the quarter much more interesting.

I'd have to say it's an excuse for the lingerie and costume lobbyists to make more money for the industry and keep America in debt.

  2. I just can't agree with what you're saying. That means that it is the woman's fault if she is raped because she should have been dressed like a proper young woman. There is no excuse for anyone to be raped and to blame in on attire is just ridiculous. I don't believe that this protest was an excuse for young women to dress like "sluts." It's a protest, that's the point: to make a statement. Just like the "I'd rather go naked than wear fur" campaign. Are they just getting naked as an excuse to be naked? It's an actual protest against animal cruelty. Dressing provocatively is in no way, shape or form a reason for a man to rape a woman.

Rape does not only happen because of how a woman is dress. There are many women in this world being raped and it is through no fault of their own. What about young girls who are raped? Are those school uniforms too much for men to handle? What about the elders who are raped in nursing homes? Is that gown just a tad bit too enticing? What about the young women who are beginning to develop their secondary sex characteristics who have their uncles and cousins touching them and doing inappropriate things to them? Is it their fault that they now have breasts and hips?

I strongly suggest you think about what you just said because I doubt that these young women were out marching and protesting rape because they were in need of sexual attention. So, I guess it's okay if all of them were raped on their way home because they should not have been dressed that way. I believe that rape should be taken seriously regardless of how the person is dressed. People use numerous tactics in order to be noticed by the public when it comes to protests so it's not fair to suggest that maybe they should have been modestly dressed in order to get their point across. From my experience, I know that drastic actions are what attract attention so what good would it have been for these women to start marching in business suits?

  3. This is where good gun laws come into play. That way, these women can at least carry a weapon of choice- Since the police officer's blame some women and therefore reinforces the rapist because they are not responsible in their eyes.

Ok, but seriously...I definitely think this was an excuse to dress sexy..but hey..what a good excuse.

I also agree with Happy2bme....rape is rape, it happens to children who were dressed like a child-appropriate, it happens to boys/men and it happens to women in every country and in every culture..whether or not they are wearing modest curtains in the middle east or long dresses here. Women have the freedom to dress however they please it is not against the law. It is against the law to rape someone. So it is the rapist fault no one else's.

  4. I don't agree because women should be able to dress freely in whatever they feel comfortable in. Whether they want to show skin or not does not mean they initiated, or deserve to be raped/molested. That's why they also have the Wear Denim Day in LA.

  5. I don't agree with you. I think that one of the main reasons that women dress like that at Halloween is because they want to appear sexy and that is what men like. There is absolutely NO reason that a woman is at fault when it comes to rape. Happy2bme is right..and the fact that this thought that someone is "asking for it" is so prevalent shows that women are still discriminated against. It's sad that as a woman we can't live our lives without the judgments of people who don't know what they are talking about.

  6. Jam, secret, sunshine, happy are right. I dress like a slut in halloween, wearing a skimpy nurses outfit, and all it does it get me arrested and no body likes it.
They usually barf even if I'm "asking for it"

By the way, I said that so people can lighten up and laugh.

But in all seriousness, rape = power trip from the rapist. Don't worry, Jail treats rapists very well.

  7. There's nothing wrong with wanting to be sexy. We are all humans and we are free to express our sexuality as well.
