Interracial Dating
I was just wondering: how many of you out there are in an interracial realtionship? Have you ever has to face any discrimination or get looks from people when you are together? I find it interesting that as much as people say that they are not racists or prejudice against other groups of people, their actions speak otherwise. I am Latina and my boyfriend is African American and we always get stared at by other Latinos or African Americans in a negative way. My family loves him and his family loves me. What's the big deal?

smile back warmly and be glad inside that you are more developed socially and spiritually than those who look at you that way. Also - don't be so sure that you know what they are thinking. Don't attribute their "looks" to judgement. Maybe they have indigestion. Bravo for you two and your families, too. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteYou shouldn't let what others think get to you. Obviously, they havn't grown up yet. I agree with spirt. Just smile back kindly and know that you two are as happy as can be. Don't let others ignorance get you down. I'm happy for you both.
ReplyDeleteInterracial dating is tricky and you are a brave person for trying something new. You are not an ignorant person and you have chosen to see passed color lines. I am an african american woman and it disturbs me to see african american men looked down on their black female counterparts. So some of the animosity you are feeling may not be a direct hit towards you but and over all generalization of black men dating outside their race and why they do it. Thank God you are in an educational institutional that is so diversly connected. CSULA strives to teach the students that race does not exist but is a social construct created to makes lines of domination and subordanation. Love your man girl!!!! F!*K those ppl!
ReplyDeleteHello,By the way I loved your blog, the answer to your question is Yes! I'am also in an interracial relationship for many years. I'am African American and my fiance' is Caucasian. I have 2 interracial children. To this day we still get looks from all races, it doesn't bother us at all, we are very comfortable in who we are as grown adults, don't allow ignorant people tear you or your relationship down. No one can judge you but God. I'm very happy with him as he is with me. So keep your head up girlfriend and just enjoy life to it's fullest!
ReplyDeleteThe most important is that you love him and your parents love him. I think society has a bunch of discrimination and will always have a common to say about others. I've heard and seen that black girls don't like when black men go out with white or latinas girls I really don't understand what they mean I thought we live in a country where we can make our own decisions. I'm a latina girl and I once dated a white guy and I felt that people had to second look and I felt uncomfortable but asked me if I cared I sure didn't so please be proud of who you are and what you have next to you because if he makes you happy and comfortable that should only matter.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is good for you that you are in an interracial relationship! It's too bad people are so narrowmided they can's see past color. We can only hope one day there will be more equality among everyone. As long as you are demonstrating progression and acceptance within your life, then that's all you can do. Who cares about what others think. We should all just feel sorry for them...
ReplyDeletethe funny thing is that i have had nothing but interracial relationship.; every person for one reason or another that i have been with his hispanic. and yeah i get the "you guys are together". oh well i just brush it off and think to myself, man that sucks that there are close minded people like that in the world. but the truth is that there are.
ReplyDeleteInterracial dating is very common now days. Many people have grown to accept it. As long as both of you are happy, it really doesn't matter what others think. There will always be people that are closed minded and ignorant but you just need to follow your heart. Personally in my culture (Armenian culture) -it is unacceptable. Dating someone other than an Armenian is a disgrace to the older generation. Over time this will change.
ReplyDeleteI faced the same feeling when I was with an african American boyfriend. The truth is that you have to determine for yourself what is important. Besides, when you are out and about, you only see those people once. Who cares what they think. You have to feel secure of yourself and have confidence in your relationship.
ReplyDeleteNot everyone is willing to accept interracial dating. Perhaps it's because of what might follow: interracial sex, interracial offspring, interracial integration, etc. I feel that many individuals are just unwilling to accept this type of relationship. Is it out of racism, prejudice, or cultural discrimination. I was willing to establish a relationship with a Korean woman because of her personality and nothing else. Not that I was able to confirm but I felt that she decided not to go through because of her family's objection. Some people are just afraid to blend cultures because of the possibility of losing ones cultural identity. I heard a person once say, "I'm okay with black people as long as they don't marry into the family," I couldn't help but observe the ignorance of that statement. The only change we can make is within ourselves. If you limit your potential partners because of their race then you might miss out on something wonderful.
