Misconception

The socializing process is constructed to separate groups of people by creating division. Race is not only created, but is a crucial divider. The respect and joy between races, I believe has always existed for the majority of the people, it just has not been publicized. The day that Barrack Obama won the presidential election was the day that the unity and mutual respect for all races were visible in the main stream media. I believe the election did not miraculously create new found positive feelings in individuals for our fellow human beings but unleashed deeply harbored feelings of positivity. The media is/or was instrumental in exposing the majority of the populations true feelings. It is that, which I find to be encouraging.

  1. I like the topic about other races being nice to other races with the forth coming of new President elect Barack Obama. I have notice where I live in Monterey Park( 2nd highest Asian populated city in america) that everyone seems to have a more pleasant demeanor. I appreciate it so much. I would hope that change was already taking place day by day before Obama otherwise his being elected would not have been possible. What are your thoughts on the matter...I see big change!!!! 2009!

  2. I agree, I think that race has always been a divider amongst people and with President Obama leading our country now hopefully we will have a more positive outlook on life as well as different races and cultures. However I'm still looking for this change.

  5. President-Elect Obama's historical election as the 44th President of the United States was monumental and historical. With that being said, I still believe that race matters in America. This historic election does not make up for hundred of years of oppressing people of color in America. It also does not change many peoples minds about African Americans in particular. As long as our media continue to portray people of color in a negative light. This country will remain divided by color lines.

  6. I have to agree that the media portrayed more unity and mutual respect for all races. His election to office is a monumental event for everyone of every shade of color. However, I believe that the state of the economy has been more of a factor in uniting the country during the election of Obama. We tend to see more unity during stressed or hard times than when everything is going okay. I just hope that this unity or mutual respect lasts during his terms in office. (and yes I said terms :o) )

  7. Having an African American president leaves other open doors and aspirations to fellow citizens of America. I believe that he is part of the movement, in addition to many others, of opportunities that is opened to many individuals, regardless of race and color. It leaves a sense of "if he can do it, I can do it" persona to those who live through life thinking they can never be or do what a person that is part of the majority race because they may feel that they are limited to opportunities because of their skin color or background. I am optimistic and hope that those who ever had doubt of their abilities, due to their mentality of believing they are only limited to certain jobs, resources, opportunities, and such, will break this state of mind and live through life experiencing and executing the things that they always wanted to do, but did not because they had always set the bar low because of the situation they are in. So, go out and do what you want to do and be what you want to be and never back down from your dream even if you encounter obstacles. Don't stop believing and don't stop working hard...!!!
