Amazing Movies

Some of the best sociological movies i've watched was American History X. The other two are Crash and White chicks becuase they make you think outside the box.

  1. American History X was a great movie! I didn't care too much for White Chicks and Crash...

  2. I showed Am Hist X in two classes - it is a great movie. About 1/3 of our class has already seen it, so we won't show it in class. However, if you haven't seen it, watch it with a friend.

  3. I have only seen crash and it was a terrific movie. Crash is a great movie to show how racism occurs everyday. It shows different races discriminating against one another, and that there isn't just one type of race that discriminates against the other races.

  4. I would agree with American History X and Crash. However, V for Vendetta remains as one of my favorite films of all time because it shows the amount of power one individual can have to change the government for the better. You do not have to take it literally in that he went to the extremes he did with explosives. Control of the media was one of the themes of the film as well. Overall a great film to discuss in a sociology class in my opinion.

  5. Wow - betweenthekeyboardandme - your comment made me want to rent that V for V - which I have heretofore not watched. Thanks! We ought to settle on one film and watch it as a group and prior to watching it: pose the question it asks.

  6. I believe V for V is an amazing film for other reasons too. It touches on the aspect of change within one's self to become a cause. It's as if you have to strip everything away on who you were socialized to be so you can fully take on a cause. We can see why some people are stagnant when it comes to seeking change ... they are not willing to strip away what they know as themselves. And it is a scary thing to do. However, their is a true sense of freedom when you strip down as the movie portrays!
