Helping Yourself

Ways to learn more in sociology classes would be to participate more. Ask questions when not certain about something. One thing that has helped me , is to observe everyone around me from a sociological perspective. Relate social events and the ages of people there. Lately events that I have attended help to me become a little more aware of my surroundings.

  1. I agree that people who are in doubt should ask questions in class. The ones that do will likely perform well in class. People do not always understand things the first time and asking questions will be benefit you in the long run.

  2. Yes - asking questions and challenging what is said is good. I liked it today when Ruthie challenged me. Like Ruthie and one other person who commented, I want to know the truth of both sides to get the whole picture more clear.

  3. I have found that when you speak out in class, rather than just sitting and observing others, your thoughts and understandings become more tangible and concrete. It is as if when you speak out loud you are reinforcing your understanding of things.

  4. yes "God" set it up so that the best way for us to learn thoroughly is sometimes to fall on our faces - or fall on our egos "save face". If the human creature holds back or sticks with the known and does not bump into the "new" then the human becomes unable - stuck, weaker. Testing, trying, probing, failing, and trying again is human and strengthening. It is important to let go of preconceptions and let information be and allow one's self the wonder from within it - and ask, ask, ask.

I am honored to have read your papers!
