The most common theme in the song is insecurity. Reed is not sure whether he wants to devote himself to a religion or not. He hates the fact that there are so many religions and by devoting himself to one religion it would mean that he would be nullifying the beliefs of other religions. His conscious makes it near impossible to completely believe in one religion, but he also wants a peace in his life and he feels that he has to pick a religion to live by.
