Social Awareness

How socially aware are we in America regarding unemployment? The statistical postings by the daily news paper are questionable...since, I am one of several million unemployed for three years, many of my friends who are either MA or Ph.D unable to find work in their field or fields that are relating to their degrees. Families are losing their homes, financially displaced; yet our government claims the economy is raising above the economic slump... what do you think?

  1. I wouldn't be surprised to find those numbers being inflated, and most likely pertaining to job acquisition in a position that you are overqualified for. Like, someone with a Ph D in child psychology having a job as a teacher's assistant.

And what about turnover rate? You can get a job now, but you'll be the first to be fired if things get rough again. I'm skeptical, too.

  2. It's time for a revolution.
You ever see congress, senate, politicians ever vote to lower their salaries? how about school superintendents, have you seen their salary?

Even CSULA's faculty salaries (no not the teachers, think bigger, higher up the food chain) are ridiculous.

That can be said of any company, anywhere, but majority of California's problems isn't the corporations or mom and pop's shops. Its it's own government who cannot manage their money.

Stupid useless social programs such as drug rehabs where the success rate is less than 20%.
Prisons being built. The cost of one prisoner is the same as the salary of an elementary or jr high school teacher. A bullet costs 25 cents. Think about it. Keep murderers, rapists, serial killers, gang bangers, alive so that we can fire a teacher?

Problems always start from the inside before it moves outside.

PhDs not being able to find jobs? or MAs? weird because everyone job I'm applying for requires you have a PhD or an MA.

Sorry for my rant. Good post.

  3. costs over 40K a year to keep a prisoner in CA. Costs just over 22K a year to keep a prisoner in Tx. Why?

  4. Cost of living? California treats prisoners better? Most prisons in TX are also contractors for the government making things from clothes to ... fences for home depot.

  5. Totally agree with you, TheLoudOne. One thing that I donot understand is why the U.S. keep spending too much on development of weapon, many times as other nations combined. As you said, it is time for revolution. And if that happens, then I will be in the front line :)
