Happy Mothers Day Madonna and Angelina. But What About The Kids In The US?

A friend of mine recently adopted a 5 year old boy-who had been in the system since he was 4 months; she celebrated her 1st Mothers Day yesterday. The story she tells of how many kids were in the system waiting to be adopted almost brought me to tears.

I realized that I'm so tired of this new celebrity trend of going to proverty stricken countries and coming back with a child like they're a souvenior and wondered if I was the only one who felt this way. So I'm blogging to find out if I'm alone.

Celebrities like Angelina and Madonna parade around like they're compaigning for Mother of the Year. I wonder if these celebrities gave flowers to their nannies yesterday because those are the ones who are the real mothers-the ones who take care of all of those multi-cultural children.

While opening up your home to those less fortunate is honorable; it would be nice to see these celebrities put their money back into the country who's given them their financial means. Our kids need a home also.

  1. i totally agree with you. there are so many children here in the united states that are in need of loving homes. also, it is so expensive to adopt here in the states. all of the lawyer fees and what not are super expensive. my friend and her husband cant have kids and would love to adopt but cant afford all of the legal fees that come along with it. i know they would be great parents. it just doesn't seem fair.

  2. This is a great post. I always thought that if i ever adopted a child it would have to be from another country; believing that children in other countries have no opportunies in life. Yet, i never stopped and thought about the Abandoned US American children who are often in the system until age 18. IT is unfortunate but The US children suffer as much as any child from other countries that don't have a home.

  3. Thank you all for this wonderful information. I also never thought about the abandoned children of the United States, this post was a real eye opener because all along I thought of kids in other countries and hated that all these stupid celebrities adopt like a gazillion kids and have like a gazillion nanny's what's the point of doing that when they're not even home raising them, instead they're out shooting another movie because they're so money hungry. They act like they need the money to survive when they should be home with their children. compare celebrities families who actually do need to work to raise their children and miss all the important stuff in everyday life. Angelina does not need all those kids or nannies if she wants to be making films.

  4. While i agree that their is definatley children in need here in the US. I think it is unfailr to discount the celebrities who are adopting wereever they are doing. The fact is they are doing it. Also it is not a new "trend" celebrities have a long history of adopting from poverty stricken countries. We should applaud all those that take on the wonderful role of becoming adoptive parents no matter who they are or which contry they are adopting from.
