The Results Are In...The Reactions Are...?

I'm surprised that no one has expressed their reactions to the Presidential Election results! What do you guys and gals think?

  2. Well, I'm glad and very surprised Obama won the election without any need of a recount. I was hoping he would win, but very skeptical if the election was going to be fair. Now we shall wait how this decision will affect and "change" the U.S. HOw does everyone think change will occur? I wasn't too sure on Prop. 8, so I kind of felt neutral when i found out that it passed. I am all for equality, and love gay people! But I heard my father's side of the story, and it made me change my view a bit. What will happen with polygamy? Will we then have a proposition stating that it should be okay for this to happen as well? Im a bit confused on this....

  3. Yes - thx for starting the post. Maybe we have learned from the Blogs that students do not really need/want to sculpt their own destinies, but, rather, prefer to wait for specific assignments and please the teacher.
But what is change - waiting for someone else to change and lead us? or changing ourselves?

...First of all, change is not something we will see within a year, or even within the first term of Obama's presidency.

We also need to understand that not ALL of our needs are going to be addressed. Yes, Obama is a minority, but he is not up there representing African Americans, Latinos, Hindus, Catholics, Homosexuals, Women, etc. all at once. According to some comments I've heard, people think that there will be change for everyone's individual oppression and unfortunately it will not be this way.

...A transgender woman spoke in our sexuality class on Thursday and she said something really interesting that it's true.

Someone who says, "I have nothing against gay people. I have many gay friends myself who I adore. But I just don't think they should get married," is still beind discriminatory and is still not "completely" accepting homosexuality in our society; therefore, that person is still homophobic. We might not notice it and we might not know we feel this way. In fact, someone who tries so hard to make sure people don't think of them as racist or homophobic, probably are such thing.

    What do you think?

  7. I'm very happy about Obama! I strongly feel that this is the first step in remedying our current situation. Hopefully, we will begin to see the results soon. I sense that not only across America, but across the world, people are inspired by this event and are more willing to participate in this proposed "change" that needs to take place to make this a better country for us and our children!

    PS. I'm really bummed about Prop 5 & 8

  8. This is a bit late but this is my opinion...
I'm glad Obama won. I do not believe change will come immediately. I honestly think he will do a job in keeping things from growing worse. BUT real change won't occur until probably his second term. And i really hope people can understand that and not want to replace him because he didn't miraculously made things better. I have high hopes. Aside from that i really like this "change" because it brings hope for a woman president hopefully in 2016 and even a hispanic president in 2028. So i'm happy, for all i know my little sister can be president like she wants to one day. The point is i like the way things are going. BUT..........
I'm extremely disappointed about proposition 8. I still don't see how people would want to take away rights from someone else. It is still difficult for me to see that. The court ruled, same sex marriages are legal. Why give somebody these rights they have long been fighting for and then just take them away? It is not something i'm happy with. And i hope as a nation we can learn to accept that not everybody has to follow societies norms. After all norms are socially constructed and can change as time progresses.
