My question: Is the paper 4 pages max or 6 pages?

Playing for change

wow this video gave me chills and made me realize we still have hope to bring and reach peace around the world. I used to do community service a couple years ago and this video reminded me how good it feels to do something productive to communities in need. I have also been encouraged to become active again on helping others. We need more Mark Jonhsons in this world who despite all the things that separate us such as politics, religion, egoism; he finds something simple as music to bring human beings around the world together to do something that brings joy and happiness to the lives of many. Sometimes we need to stop for a minute and appreciate the beautiful things and people that surrounds us and that if we do not give back and help each other, we are only going to keep destroying each through wars, conflict, differences that are not worth fighting for because after all we only need each other to work as a whole to live better.

So, I have just finished watching "Playing For Change" and I must say... the concept of the video was incredibly put. The funny thing about it is that my dad previously bought the song and music video through the internet about a month ago, so I had the firsthand opportunity to see and hear the entire track :-P

Sociologically, I find it interesting that individuals from all walks of life share the same love for music... it goes to show that no matter how conflicting our lives get, we somehow find ways to see the positive side of our situation. All too often, we immerse ourselves with our problems and forget to look at the bright side of life. Hence it's especially important that we take the time to thank our blessings each day... :-)

I am getting an "A"

I definitely know, i got a bad grade on paper 4. I did not know the paper required three pages and after reading other students papers, i think I forgot to mention quite a few things. Well I hope Prof. Tabor is not to harsh when grading our papers.

education?

How many times have you had a professor (or more likely, a lecturer) who does the following things: Gives unoriginal, tired, and moldy power point presentations, which do nothing but regurgitate the text, and most cant even do that right (and I can read the F'n text myself, geez), pushes their beliefs on their students instead of teaching the course subject matter pertinent to the class, etc, etc? It seems so many lecturers on campus have fallen into the classic case of Ritualism (i.e. taking all the socially correct measures to become a teacher, but then don't care about their students or job, therefore just going thru the motions). There are other lecturers on campus (blank blank) who are total hypocrites. Isn't it ironic that people like him/her (total conflict theorists) who harp on how minorities are so oppressed, inequality, etc. turn out to be the oppressor when allowed to be in a power position. He/she, as the instructor, is in the authority role, and the students are under his power. As a minority on this campus (not in the general population), I have been discriminated against based on his obsession with white privilege. He/she also condones violence in his activist rants, which is reprehensible. Blank Blank is another incompetent, sexist, arrogant pathetic excuse for an educator. Just a warning.

I wasn't here last wednesday. I know this is last minute but is there room to join on of the groups. Green, blue, red or black???

So I came to school today expecting a normal day. I knew one of my classes had been cancled today but soon found out the one right after was too! I was checking my e-mail in my 8am class (instead of listening to a history lecture) and my professor e-mailed the class saying she was sick and couldn't make it. That means I have to find something to do for the 4 hours inbetween 9:30 and the time that this class starts at 1:30. I have been on facebook, myspace, youtube, amazon and countless other websites to pass the time. I even finished a book I was reading and still there is another hour ahead of me! I will be upset if I get to class and see that writing 301 has also been cancled.

a long week of organizing

This week was a bit crazy for me. Lots of demonstrations for the anniversary of prop 8 and other events as well. I extend my remorse to my homosexual brothers and sisters who still face bigotry and injustice. Remember that there are some who support you and embrace you no matter our differences. For those who were able to witness the symbolic gay wedding and march last thursday, i'd like to know what you think. I have written my observational paper but i'd like to know what others think. I also have an announcement, on the week after thanksgiving i will be having a used book sale and bake sale. Lots of goodies for the holidays. hey everyone, i am in the PM Black Group but unfortunately i can't make it to class today. I have a really bad cough and fever. Last Wednesday my group and I didn't narrow down what factors we are going to observe. That is why i'm a little worried because i can't make it today and we don't have school this coming Wednesday because of Veteran's day. Maybe we can look into how college students vs. high school students (LA county of Arts) group each other by ethnicity, for instance when they are walking around campus or eating. Downtown L.A. Art Walk... (possible observation setting)

Totally forgot about this event, it happens every 2nd Thursday of each month and is free, so you could just walk up and down checking things out, there will be some people to "observe" all over the place for data on the paper that is coming up. I think it runs from noon to midnight so if you work or go to school, you might be able to fit this into your schedule. It is located around 5th and Main St.'s in Downtown (just east of Pershing Square).

Book Recommendation (Re: Brain vs. The Mind)

"The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker- in it is a careful analysis of the importance of trusting our instincts (esp the survival signals that protect us). Very important book to read! Usually our raw instincts are correct, but it is our MIND that shuts out the incoming messages to better appropriate our behaviors to keep in line with society's norms. Often, ignoring our instincts will get us into trouble.

I have a question

Could someone tell me how many citations we need to have in our paper?
I think we need four, that is three from the articles and one from the web.
Someone is telling me I only need two jourals and one web.
Could someone make it more clear for me?

Finding an article that U sent to self

• open email with articles. Highlight title of one U want & COPY (Cntrl C)
• go to the Library page and click on Articles
• pick "Sociology" from list and click "Get Database lists"
• pick "Sociological Abstracts". Its Search page will appear.
• PASTE (Cntrl V) article name in first field BUT change what you are looking for from "Keywords" to "title".

the article comes up - and you can click "Find It" to see if it is available in full-text. Hope this helps. AND here is a SAMPLE - seemingly on theory, but just to illustrate citations, block quotes, & how to make a reference page
