MILLION BILLION TRILLION??!!!!

So I have never... EVER counted to one MILLION. I have never even counted to one thousand!!!It is incomprehensible that it takes 32 years to reach one trillion (MT EDIT BILLION) seconds, and only 12 days to reach one trillion (MT EDIT one MILLION) seconds. If Bill Gates is giving away half of his fortune (which is how much??) to charity, that is more money than there are people on the earth! That is nuts! A trillion is an almost unthinkable to me...

  1. million sec = 12 days
    billion sec = 32 years
question is how long to live 1 trillion seconds.

  2. I trillion seconds comes out to 32,876.712.. years because if one million multiplied by a thousand is 1 billion; then 1 billion is multiplied by a thousand is one trillion. So if 1 million sec = 12 days and 1 billion =32 years all I did was multiply 12 days by 1000 which equal to 12,000 then divide it by one year 365 days gave me the answer of 32.876712.. or 32 years. Same goes for the billion I would multiply 32 years by one thousand. Basically move the period three spaces to the right which gives the answer of 32,000.00 or to be more precise 32,876.712.. years 1 trillion seconds would be.

  3. the thing that i just cant get my head around is that i can survive my whole lifetime on 1 billion dollars and these two guys got 30-40 billion. how do they live their lives knowing that they can buy watever they want and never even have a doubt that they cant afford it. it is mind blowing to me

  4. 3,600 sec in an hour
    86,400 sec in a day
11.57 days for a million seconds

    Therefore a billion seconds = 11,575 days
    That is 31.7 years
31,712 years for a trillion seconds

    Sum
12 days for a million seconds
32 years for a billion seconds
32,000 years for a trillion seconds

  5. This much is just unthinkable! I mean having that much money these particular type of people who don't run with the normal crowd, find things to buy that they don't even need. Even giving half the money up causes no problem because its just made up the next day. Matter of fact, i don't believe these numbers should exist in the first place. I don't know i'm just blogging!

  6. the numbers "exist" because they are abstract numbers.
what is amazing is that politicians are talking about them as if they have some "handle" on them. I pointed out the 12 sec, 32 years, 320 centuries so that we can see how unwieldy the numbers are. what politician has a spreadsheet showing how he/she will spend a billion?
do you know the Recovery Act last year was 787 billion?
and now the congress asks for more billions for "recovery?" Now you have a sense of what that is about.
