Arizona SB1070 and citizen deputies

The US Attorney General has not read the bill (his own admission), but everyone should read Arizona Bill SB1070.   It is 16 pages long.  I searched Arizona Bill SB1070 for "militia", "deputy", and "citizen" to read about the citizen deputies.  There is no mention of these terms.  Then I googled "Arizona citizen militia and SB1070".  I found two blogs.  One of them said that the people behind SB1070 were in favor of citizen militias.  It was from 9 days ago and 3 people had left comments. The second blog was also from 9 days ago; it had no comments.  
If I missed language in the bill itself that allows citizen militias to enforce law, please comment with the page number.  If I missed a better news source than those two little blogs, please deposit the URL.  We would all like to know if the state is approving citizen militias.

Museum of Tolerance

Those of you who work during the day and were interested in attending the museum on an afternoon, think again. The hours for the museum: 10am-5pm. They are closed on Saturdays. Sun 11am -5pm. The museum is in Long Beach. It seems like if its worth going to even if we dont have time before we turn in our paper.

More than what I expected...

In this class I learned more than what I thought I was going to learnn. Yes I did learn how to use the ASA format especially since I have been use to mainly using the APA or the MLA formats. Nevertheless, what MT would say in each and every class was indeed inspirational to me. There was not one class that she would not say anything that would make me think and relate to my life. Every single class there was something new to learn and to me that was more valuable than to simply learn how to write proper papers. I did enjoy this class but above all I enjoyed MT's lectures. Thank You Dr. Tabor and good luck with your book I hope to read it soem day =)

Karma

I find the definition of karma to be interesting and how the word has changed meaning over time. What really defines the meaning of a word anyways? Is it the dictionary definition of a word or is it a socially defined meaning? Are words supposed to be looked at in context or do you always think the definition of a word applies for all uses of that word?

I stopped getting paid at 2, so now I am just here trying to do homework since my laptop has a virus and my friend's brother has it. He's trying to fix it. Hadn't realized how necessary computers were until I did not have mine. In the meantime, I have to find other ways to get a hold of a computer to work on my last papers for this quarter.  

Since I got decent feedback for the other papers, I am leaning towards re-doing paper 2 as my final paper.
I've come to realize that it is my least favorite paper out of all of them. The others I loved, this one... not so much.

Keep the Legend Living

For those interested in a great inspirational man, check out the LA Times from March 07, 2010. It talks about an old professor named Jamie Escalante who influenced low-income students in becoming math experts in calculus and provide them the the education needed to have a better future. He's now dying from cancer and it is on us to keep his legacy alive to help others who come from the same struggles live a better life. Viva La Raza!

let's remember our sample sizes are small and our populations are unique.  do not make the mistake of saying "men do this or that, whereas women do that or this."  it's better to say it like this, "these men show a tendency to ... and these women show a tendency to ..."  or "these women at Cal State are more X and these Cal State men are more Y."  I trust you see what I mean.

Being sick is never fun. It's even worse when finals are around the corner and papers are due. I know what I want to write but I am finding it very difficult to put my thoughts on paper because I keep wanting to doze off.
On another note, I was reading some of your posts about yesterday and I also came home to hug my mother. She's too amazing for words.

Mom

When MT shared what happened, it was really hard to hold back the tears in class yesterday. I wanted to give her a hug, but didn't know if that would be appropriate. I think it's great that she is going to have a celebration for her mom - must have been an amazing woman.

When I got home, I gave my mom a BIG hug. I'm very close to my mom, but with so many things going on in our lives, it's easy for me to forget to take the time to show her how much she means to me. It's definitely something I plan on doing more.

Just thought I'd share that. :]

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

I just finished watching One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for the first time and it was interesting, I liked it! And it definitely made me laugh at times. Very good movie!

playing for change

At first, I didn't see a correlation with having poor kids play music, or how music brings together the less fortunate because I was thinking that less fortunate immigrants that come here may listen to completely different music. If that was the case, then not all music would bring together people. I do think his use of street performers and children did bring together a very vivid image of music affecting people's lives, and his cause is a very good one. The video of the children learning music is a little excessive in my option, but in a way it does show that the money is going towards something good. I wouldn't say music is exactly the connector in people's lives. If anything it may divide people, but children that learn to play music have been shown to be, for lack of a better word, smarter. It does promote creativity. I have a quote that I thought was fitting: "A growing body of research confirms the relationship between high quality preschool and later success in school and in life ... Music engages the brain over a period of time .... the process of listening to music could be a way that the brain sharpens its ability to sustain attention." — Stanford University School of Medicine, July 2007. Don't get me wrong, I loved the music in the short clip, but it all seemed a little sappy to me. That was their purpose afterall, right?

Trip to Arizona

For the past year I've been doing research that deals with Native Americans. I have always wanted to go to different reservation across the nation but so far Ive only been to one Reservation in New Mexico. I am so proud and happy to say that the time has come for me to finally go to a reservation. My friend who so happens to be my ex's cousin has invited me to go to his reservation this weekend. I am thrilled and delighted. However, aside from the Pow wow they are having Im also going to accompany him to his cousin's funeral. Sad and shoking I know. In fact I am honored that he is inviting me to such an event.

I am nervous but above all I am a tad scared because I dont want to run into my ex who I havent seen for 3 months, after all he is related to the person that passed away. I am confused, nervous, and doubting whether I should go or not. What would you do? The funeral last for sevral hours from noon to sunrise of the next day.

DAY CLASS NEWS !

Monday is no longer a furlough!  Class on Monday.  Furlough on Wednesday instead of Monday.  This gives you day class people one extra day on paper #5 - Paper #5 will be due in my office door by Thursday 6PM - that's March 11th, by 6PM.  See you MONDAY, in class, Day.  Night people welcome too if you like!  Final paper (#6) due on final week, 1:30 monday for day people and 7:30 TUESDAY (yes, Tuesday, not Thursday) for Night people, as was announced in class.   Papers can be dropped in envelope in my office prior to those times - but NOT AFTER those times.

For some reason I am nervous about paper #5. I thought the Library paper #3 was going to be the hardest but I am finding that paper #5 is. I suppose I find it a bit difficult to gather data and interpret the findings and then write about it. Creating the chart scares me. What are your thoughts?

Adv technology

Again I still live in weho and I haven't seen anyone with with a verizon, Cingular, nextel, boost, etc.. Every one owns an iPhone. (in west Hollywood). Destruction in more ways than one

Well I'm not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this. I've been trying to get the attention of a young lady for about a month now. Shes very cute and very funny, and also attracts other guys. I've been out on 3 dates with her and thus far everything's been turning up Ace's. (yes I say Ace's) I got very close to me and her declaring that we were an exclusive couple. However the situation got shaken up. She was sent by her company to go to Chile to help with the damage. The problem with this is that other people she attracts are also being sent to Chile. Having never declared us as official, shes now at the mercy of thier charm. We can keep in touch by text every once in a while but thats not the same.
I'm annoyed about this speed bump in a potential great relationship. However I suppose its for a good cause. Chile better be greatful for my sacrafice. j/k
